It is reported that Stepan Sarpaneva get lots of inspiration from the long and and gloomy Finland winters to design his watches. And the 44mm cases, featuring mysterious dark tones, are really cool and stylish with not a few designer characters. I can not tell the moon face is happy or sad but I can feel it is rather powerful and purposeful. As located on the automatic rotor, the moon face is visible at the case back of the watch as well.
Stepan Sarpaneva uses modified automatic Soprod A10 movements to give these distinctive timepieces life. The dial is nicely skeletonized and reveals the inner structure of the watch. The case is done in stainless steel or coated with black DLC, and the movement comes with defferent tones to match the case.
To my knowledge, the Sarpaneva Koronoa K3 watch collection was given the prestigious Red Dot Design Award. This time, the Sarpaneva Korona K3 Black Moon from the same collection won the Good Design award Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. And as far as I know, this exceptional is limited wot just 20 pieces world-wide. It is completed by a matching black leather strap. I expect more adorable watches from Stepan Sarpaneva.
