2009 marks the 40th anniversary of the first manned lunar landing. On that landing,Buzz Aldrin worn the Omega Speedmaster Professional Moon Watch. Paying tribute to this milestone event in both aviation history and Omega watch-making history, Omega has released the Speedmaster Professional Moon Watch Apollo 11 40th Anniversary Limited Edition watch.

Obviously, the watch carries on the features of the original one while it is endowed with a few major distinctions . The case is 42 mm at diameter. It has incorporated hesalite face made of an acrylic Compound. Hesalite replaces sapphire because it has excellent shatter-proof performance which is an important quality in a space mission. But hesalite gets scratches easily, which calls for special attention when wearing. An OMEGA logo has been etched inside the crystal.

The most attractive part on the black dial is the medallion serving as small seconds at 9 o’clock position. The medallion was designed by Michael Collins, who who was Command Module Pilot in the Apollo 11 capsule, as a symbol of peace. It depicts an eagle approaching the moon surface with an olive branch in its claws while the earth is visible far above the horizon.The dial also showcases” 02:56 GMT”- the exact time that Nail Armstrong made his “one small step” onto the moon-in red.

the Speedmaster Professional Moon Watch Apollo 11 40th Anniversary Limited Edition watch is available in platinum version(limited to 69 pieces) and stainless steel version(limited to 7969 pieces). The medallion is the only thing to tell two versions. The gold is for platinum version while the sterling silver is applied on the stainless steel version.

Beneath the good looking, there beats a manually-wound Omega 1861 movement, same movement used in the original Speedmaster Professional Moon Watch.In addition, the watch adopts Omega’s patented screw and pin system into the upgraded bracelet.
